Olympian – Double Trap

Wmedia is really proud to be associated with James Willett. At just 21 years of age, James has enjoyed a rapid rise in the sport. While he began shooting when he was 12, he only began the double trap discipline at the beginning of 2015 and has upstaged many of his more fancied rivals around the world during his opening year in the sport.

Having to commute over three hours to Werribee to train, Willett and his father Arthur built a shooting range at their farm in Corowa near the NSW/VIC border.

James claimed World Cup victory when he won the Rio 2016 test event and later competed at the Rio Olympics narrowly missing out on a bronze.

James Willett further enhanced his reputation as one of the world’s best shooters with a record-breaking performance in India in February 2017. He won gold in the men’s Double Trap at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, setting a new world record in the process.

Going into the event ranked number three in the world, Willett defeated hometown favourite Ankur Mittal, who scored 74, with a world record score of 75.

“It was really good to come out and win the first World Cup of the year,”

“It’s great to start 2017 on a high.” Willett said afterwards.

Willett has had an outstanding 2017 so far, being named as Shooting Australia’s Male Shooter of the Year for the second year in a row and establishing top two rankings in the first of five Commonwealth Games qualification events – first in double trap and second in trap.

GO JAMES!!!
